A dental handpiece overhaul is a comprehensive service that restores a handpiece to its original performance by replacing worn or damaged components and cleaning internal parts. It’s different from routine cleaning or lubrication, as it involves disassembly, inspection, and replacement of critical parts.

  • Bearings – Often the most common replacement; ceramic bearings may be upgraded for longer life.

  • O‑rings – Seals that prevent air and water leaks; worn or cracked O‑rings are replaced.

  • Gaskets – Internal seals that maintain proper pressure and prevent contamination.

  • Air and Hâ‚‚O lines – Cleaned and, if damaged, replaced to ensure proper coolant and air flow.

Additional Services:

  • Head assembly (lowspeed)– Removed and cleaned to remove scale when needed, debris, and corrosion, removing dents for an additional charge.

  • Fiber optic bundle/rod – Replaced if damaged or degraded (additional charge).

  • Head housing – Repaired or replaced if cracked or damaged.

  • End cap – Replaced if worn or damaged (additional charge).

  • Turbine spindle/chuck assembly – Replaced if worn or damaged.

Cleaning and lubrication:

  • Air and Hâ‚‚O lines are cleaned thoroughly.

  • The head assembly is cleaned and lubricated with the correct lubricant for the model.

  • Internal drive components are lubricated to restore smooth operation.

Pre‑service checks:

  • Before disassembly, the handpiece is tested for spin quality, vibration, cutting ability, bur retention, water spray function, and air leakage.

  • Diagnostic equipment may be used to assess turbine performance and detect early wear.

  • Warranty status is checked to ensure repairs are handled correctly.

High-speed Overhaul Includes:

Price Range: $85 - $185

  • Installation of a brand-new, fully assembled turbine with ceramic ABEC‑9 rated, shielded bearings

  • Replacement of all O-rings and the end gasket

  • Bearing lubrication

  • Chuck concentricity testing

  • Performance testing under load

  • Cleaning of the handpiece head and back cap

  • Cleaning of chip air and water lines

  • Polishing of the exterior housing
